The Michael Choukas Skating Rink is dedicated to Michael Choukas Jr. ’46. A Vermont Academy alumnus, he returned in 1954 as a faculty member and in 1966 was appointed as Vermont Academy’s twelfth Head of School.

The arboretum is a large cultivated field in the middle of our woodland trail system. It includes a historic cabin and two lean-tos that are used throughout the year by our Wilderness Skills group.

Located on 450 acres in the foothills of the Green Mountains, Vermont Academy has all the terrain needed for sports and play. The 30 kilometers of trails are used by our cross country, mountain biking, and nordic teams, and they are also open to the public. In the winter months, our trails are groomed for nordic races.

Williams Gymnasium is home to our boys’ and girls’ basketball teams. It features a hardwood floor basketball court with a Shoot-A-Way Gun as well as a climbing wall and an indoor high ropes course.

The rink is home of the boys’ and girls’ ice hockey programs. The rink features a large skating surface with an artificial ice-making and maintenance system. During the spring months, the rink is outfitted with batting cages and indoor pitching mounds for the baseball team.

With 6 electric wheels, a 40 cubic foot gas kiln as well as two electric kilns, and an on campus raw materials lab that allows students to mix and test glazes in the studio, VA’s pottery program provides a unique and comprehensive educational ceramic experience at the high school level.

Our ice hockey teams compete in the New England Prep School Athletic Conference, as well as the highly-competitive Lakes Region Conference. Each year, the teams play a 20-plus game schedule with at least one supplemental tournament.
